My Top 3 Marilyn Monroe Films
Marilyn Monroe Lookalike Babsy Artner I like all Marilyn Monroe movies! Her comic timing was just awesome, her singing and dancing sensational, her appearance breathtaking, and her acting unique. I enjoy the innocent humor in “How to Marry a Millionaire” or “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” and of course the slapstick in “Some like it hot”.
I adore Marilyn’s performance in “River of No Return”, “Bus Stop” and “Niagara”. And I love watching her romantic comedies “Let's Make Love” and “The Prince and the Showgirl”.
Nevertheless there are three movies, which I’d call my favorite Marilyn Monroe films. Read further to find out which ones and why I consider them outstanding.
The Seven Year Itch (1955)
This is my favorite Marilyn Monroe comedy. Marilyn is just loveable in this movie! Her character is so hilarious and innocent, it’s simply refreshing. Her acting is perfect and the way she looks in the film, is exactly how we remember her, so many decades after the movie has been released. The famous “flying skirt” scene with the white dress over a subway grate in New York wrote film history.
The Misfits (1961)
It’s just wonderful to see Marilyn in a more dramatic role. She fits the part perfectly. Maybe because the script had been written by her then-husband Arthur Miller. Marilyn shares quite some similarities to her character Roslyn. Both are extremely fond of animals, both suffer from a broken relationship and from not getting enough love, both appear very sad and fragile, but also full of hope. This is one of my favorite movies of her, because it somehow shows the real Marilyn.
Don't Bother to Knock (1952)
Marilyn very rarely had the chance to show her dramatic talent in a serious film, but in this movie she could show the world what an extraordinary and fantastic actress she was. This is my number one favorite Marilyn Monroe movie. Marilyn as the disturbed babysitter Nell is believable, frightening and shocking. I wish she could have made more thrillers like this!
